Jan Winburn

Jan Winburn is senior editor for enterprise reporting at CNN Digital, where she is bringing longform multimedia storytelling to a brand known for breaking news. Before joining CNN in 2009, she was an editor at newspapers for three decades. Among the awards her writers have won: The Pulitzer Prize for feature writing, a Dart Award, the Livingston Award for Young Journalists, a Batten Medal and a Peabody Award. Winburn received the 2009 Mimi Award, given to editors who “understand how to navigate the emotional landscape of assignments on tragedy and trauma.” She is an Editing Fellow at The Poynter Institute and co-author of two ebooks: “Secrets of Prize-Winning Journalisms 2013” and the 2014 edition.

Before becoming an online journalist in 2009, she spent 30 years as an editor and writing coach at newspapers, including The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Baltimore Sun, The Hartford Courant and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
